What Is It That Makes You Upset?
Know Thyself Marketing Part 1: Know Your Triggers
Know Your Triggers
“The attempt to escape from pain, is what creates more pain. It is not the pain that hurt us, it is the resistance to it.”
I used to chase pain. Not on purpose.
It started with negative self-talk. Then cigarettes. Then porn. Then work. I told myself I was in control. I told myself I wanted it. But I didn’t. I wanted something I couldn't quite name.
What I wanted was to feel something. Something real.
And I found it in the weirdest place: Learning to write for the internet.
Not in the shallow way. Not “Here’s how to sell more stuff.” It was more like:
“Why do they scroll?”
“Why do people click?”
“What are they hoping to feel?”
"What is their deepest longings?"
And that’s when it hit me... Marketing is a map of the soul.
A map of the Human Condition...
Pain Points
You’ve heard the term if you’ve read any copywriting book. They say to “find the pain and press it.”
But I say: Sit with it.
Feel into the ache. Not just theirs—yours. Not just to "sell stuff" but to help other people in need. To bring about healing for the world. Because here’s the truth:
We all chase the same ghosts.
We want to feel whole
We want to feel seen
We want to feel like we matter
We try to fix that with products, apps, quotes, sex, likes, hustle... But that hole doesn’t fill with more. It fills with truth. With story. With presence.
The Collective Shadow
Let’s zoom out.
Every craving has a root. Every habit has a need. Every “bad choice” is a cry.
When you study pain points, you start to see the patterns.
Why some people crave control
Why others disappear into fantasy
Why the scroll never ends
It’s not about data. It’s about desire. When you hold up a mirror to those desires, something strange happens: You start to see your own. And now marketing isn’t a job.
It’s a kind of Divination.
I remember writing a landing page for a coaching offer I never sold. I listed out problems like:
“You feel like a failure before you even try.”
“You want to stop hiding but don’t know who’s safe.”
“You’re tired of being the one who ‘figures it out’ alone.”
And I realized I was talking to myself.
The copy wrote me back. It showed me where I was still bleeding. It showed me what I still wanted to heal. This is Know Thyself Marketing. Not tricks. Not trends. Just Truth.
Why Do We Crave?
Because we believe we lack. The lie of the world says: “You are not enough.”
Marketing (at its worst) agrees. But there’s a sacred path in this too.
Because when you write from the wound, when you sell from the soul, when you ask, “What do I need to hear?”... you wake up. Marketing becomes a healing tool. It forces you to see. It trains your attention. It asks you to understand people without judging them.
And when you do that enough… You become someone worth trusting. Not because you say the right words. But because you live them.
Pain points are entry points. Not into a funnel— Into a frequency. Into a deeper awareness. A place where we stop lying. Where we speak straight. Where we own the ache.
From there, we offer something real. Not “more”... but enough.
This is the beginning of the Know Thyself path. Where Marketing becomes Mirror. Where Selling becomes Service. Where every click is a chance to meet yourself deeper.
This is Marketing as Alchemy.
“The modern world is much more comfortable with the idea of engineering than Alchemy. But the problem is, engineering only works when you can solve a problem logically. And most human problems are not logical—they’re psychological.”
Next Monday, we talk about the person behind the pain. And how it’s not who you think it is. Until then— Write from the wound. Watch who shows up.
Your Soul is calling.
